Legal Defense Fund
Definition: An account established to defray attorney's fees or other legal costs incurred by a candidate or public officer if such a candidate or public officer becomes subject to any civil, criminal or administrative claim or proceeding arising from a campaign, the electoral process or the performance of his official duties.
A person who administers a legal defense fund shall notify the Secretary of State within 5 days after the creation of such fund on the Legal Defense Fund Statement of Formation form available on the Secretary of State's website. Further, the person is required to report all contributions and expenses relating to the fund on the Contributions and Expenses Reports which are due:
- January 15, 2008
- August 5, 2008
- October 28, 2008
- January 15, 2009
Please Note: Upon formation of a Legal Defense Fund all reports required thereafter within that particular election cycle need to be completed.
